Sunday Songs

By the time this is posted I will, hopefully, be living it up in NYC. So I wanted to share some songs which will have gotten me through my travel which is something which I am not looking forward to. I am overly anxious and my therapist has discussed strategies to support my travel. Also, my doctor has prescribed me Diazepam (Valium) in a small dose to help and also to keep me calm if I have a panic attack while away. This is not the the best time to be going to another country but the city I love is NYC and this will hopefully be a positive visit for me.

Sunday Songs

Today the weather is once again reminding me that summer is gone and that fall is upon me. I decided, while sitting earing my breakfast, that today was going to be a house day. I didn't fancy going out into the cold and wind and rain. I set to organising and sorting my wardrobe. I have neglected it as of late and it was all a bit mixed up, which stressed me out every time I looked at it. So I put my spotify on and thought I'd share some of the songs which got me through the 'wardrobe organisiation'.

Fink - Perfect Darkness

 Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

 Maroon 5 - Daylight

Broken Bells - Vaporize

Friday Favourites

[One] Favourite Show
I am late to the party and just started watching Breaking Bad. I am addicted to the show. In the UK it was not really shown so I am working my way through the DVD's. Currently I have worked my way to Series 4. I am working away and I love it!

Didn't take long too long to work through these.

[Two] Chocolate

This could be on my list every week but I am adding it anyway. It has been keeping me sane this week when I have lost appetite for anything else.

[Three] Friends
I have some great friends who have really been there to support me the past few weeks. They're accepting me for who I am and comforting me when I need it the most.

[Four] Pinterest
As I have some time on my hands, ahem, I have been loving some Pinterest fun!

[Five] Fall colours

I am not the biggest fan of the colder weather approaching but I do love the colours which Fall brings.

I wanted to share a few of my favourite songs at the moment with you all and of course I will take on board any recommendations from you all too!

Happy Sunday!

I love this song - it makes me feel strong! That's exactly how I've needed to feel lately!

This song just makes me happy.

This is an oldie but I still love the calmness it brings.

Facts of Me ...

Today I am linking up with Whitney at 'I Wore Yoga Pants To Work'. It's a post all about me ... Do we have anything in common?

Fact 1
The older I get, the higher the standards I gain. This is true from work, to home etc. I would never say they were particularly low but I definitely aim very high now. Sometimes to my own detriment.

Fact 2
I love quotes. Simple as that. When I was at University it was the days of MSN Messenger and I constantly had lyrics as my status. This made me known as 'The Lyrics Queen'.  Quotes make me me think and ponder life. I can easily lose myself for hours reading them.

Fact 3
Music is a passion - I can't play an instrument but that's irrelevant. I always listen to music. In fact, I think I listen to more music than I watch TV most weeks. My favourite is discovering a new artist and being obsessed with them. I still remember the day The Killers 'Hot Fuss' came out, I played that record on repeat for months. As of late The Lumineers have kept me entertained.

"I'm like the Dead Sea... you told me I was like the Dead Sea, you'd never sink when you are with me..."

Fact 4
I am fiercely protective of my family and friends. When I make friends with someone they have me forever. Unless they hurt me or treat me unfairly they will always have me on their side. I will do anything for them.

Fact 5
I over flow with empathy. I feel like I physically hurt when friends and family around me do. I have been told, and would agree, that I am very perceptive. This has its positives but it also means I feel everything.

Fact 6
I love to travel. I went from being a homebody to an independent traveller. It started a couple years back when I met a guy and was inspired to see me and be more independent. From short trips with Miss Faux Fur to NYC where I would wander, to travelling America and Canada and then last Summer visiting Australia, I have itchy feet. Due to my job I am limited to the times I can travel but I make the most of it. It gives me freedom and allows me to meet new people.

Fact 7
Clothes and shoes are a weakness of mine. I don't crave ridiculously expensive clothes and shoes, I just crave any! I love picking up a bargain here and there and pairing it with older outfits to feel new. Dresses are my down fall and I will always fall for pretty dresses and classic LBDs. One is not enough for me.

Fact 8
I love my job. I am a teacher and I make a difference. The children listen and learn well. I see them grow into mature young adults and they spend as much time with me as their parents sometimes. I am like a surrogate mother to all 29 in my class at the moment. In school I am known as 'the nurturer' due to my calm manner.

Fact 9
I have zero common sense and this is the source of great amusement for others on many occasions. My mind is scatty and therefore quite often I say things without thinking and mind wander all over the place. But sometimes it's nice to be in my own little world and not be right on it. It keeps me entertained.

Fact 10
When I feel panic while driving I turn my music down. I can't concentrate and find it off putting. So if I'm lost? Volume down!

I am also on Twitter if you want to follow and get to know me even better!

What fact would you share? Do we have anything in common?

Music with meaning...

I couldn't sleep one morning and decided to listen to the radio and a song came on which made me smile. Why? Well it was a song which reminds me of my Dad and everytime I hear it with him he tells me the same fact each time- like clock work. "You know that sound Missy? The background noise? Well that's Buddy Holly clapping and patting his knees." He knows I know this yet still tells me. Therefore when I hear this song I smile.

 Buddy Holly- Everyday

Another song which makes me smile is one which my Mam absolutely adores (I really do too) and when it's on the radio I feel happy.
Everlasting Love - Love Affair

I could go on and on about songs which are special to me for silly reasons relating to my parents. After all, their music was much better than the rubbish these days...or so they say.

Do you have a song which reminds you of a parent or relative and make you smile? Even if it is for a silly reason?

Mini waves and celebrations- 100th post time...

As it was my 100th post I didn't want to just do a normal post.I thought it may not be creative but I thought 100 facts would be fun. However, I have little concentration and 100 is a big number so 100 random facts just seemed like something I wouldn't be able to do.So I thought I'd tackle it in an organised fashion by using sub-headings and sets of 10 ... I teach- let me off with this overly OCD form of organisation.

So here are 100 - organised- things which I want to share about me. After all, after 100 posts I think it's fair to say that I will stick this blogging thing out and I want you all to feel like you know me better.

My fever...

After a bit of a bad day yesterday (it sucks finding out news which you people think you wont find out) I had a day away from blogging as it would have been a rather glum post. Any cheering up would be appreciated by the way?! During the week, on of my favourite bloggers, Hockey Wife, posted something about Bieber Fever after taking her little one to see the film and encouraged us to think of our own 'Fever' from childhood. I was inspired to write a post on mine;

1999...12 years old...the beginning of my induction into boy band fever. Having grown up with 4 brothers, I was well versed in the music of Nirvana. I was even able to sing along to many of their tracks. But when it hit 1999, everything changed!

Yes, the millennium was on its way, there was a bug which was going to destroy all computers but it was The Backstreet Boys (and their Millenium album) which changed my life. Now I know they had been around for some time but, as I said, I was Nirvana and rock. I remember, going to my local supermarket and buy their album (my first ever) and never looking back.

What followed was the transformation of my childhood into a teenager. I suddenly had a favourite boyband member, a song which I would imagine was being sung to me and an album which would be on repeat. I began to buy their ‘back catalogue’ and became obsessed in a way in which only teenage girls can about boy bands. I had my favourite- Nick if you must know.

I think he needs to be on my ‘list’...

Why? Well, his hair was amazing, his voice was outstanding and he was just a typical young American kid. I just adored him. Me and my friend would spend our time practising our autographs signatures with his surname and imagining our life Florida- not both of us obviously. That was another bone of contention- who would get him?! Obviously that would be me of course! A favourite of mine was my video (yep- VHS people!) which was a compilation of all their TV shows they did at that time.

I had pictures from magazines plastering the wall of my computer room. That room will now be forever known as ‘The Shrine’. What I haven’t told you yet is that I have a twin. She was a Westlife fanatic- she loved Shane and plastered her side of the wall in Westlife memorabilia. So you can just imagine the amazingness of that room?! I often dabbled in Westlife but would always come back to the good stuff- The Backstreet Boys.

After a rummage I found my ‘BSB Folder’. Just a few of the delights inside!

My biggest regret is that I didn’t get to see them live back in the day. However, only last year did myself, Miss Twin, Miss GG and Miss Faux Fur relive our youth when we FINALLY got to see them perform. I am not ashamed to say that I regressed in years to a screaming, bouncy 16 year old girl who cheered and sang like there was no tomorrow.

My phone shot of the BSB- not clear but it totally means the world!

That’s my fever and guess what? It’s still here, slightly dormant but every now and again when my iTunes randomly throws up a BSB track I enjoy a good sing along and I am transported back to a time of worrying if I had enough money for the next single which would be released and which poster to remove for my new one.

What was yours?

Work, work, work...

All I do is work lately. Planning, assessment, marking and making resources. When I am not working I do try and have a life but sometimes I am just so tired and went to spend all day in bed (I don't obviously as I would be judged to be lazy- bad times).

I am therefore having a short blog tonight, as you guessed it- I have a lot of work!!We have been asked to day to have lots of things ready for tomorrow and the person I work with (teaches the other class) is out to the theatre which was planned for ages. Therefore it comes down to me. To keep my mood up, I have turned to music. I'd like to share a song which I love and gets me singing along :-) I just love when iTunes is on random, it throws up some songs which I forgot about: this one included!

I'm lost but I'm hopeful...

Today has been one of those days...the type where nothing goes wrong but you end it by feeling particularly wound up and frustrated. The weekend didn't set me up the best but that's a continual issue which isn't going to just vanish. Work has just been one thing after another and this year I have extra responsibilities for co-ordinating different things in school which are quite demanding. I am also in the process of applying for a teaching job abroad (boooo C.V's!!)! Soooo all in all there's a lot of stuff for teeny me to be dealing with. To just make my day sound even better....yes you will be jealous...I spent my lunch time in the PE cupboard tidying it up since no-one in my school understands what boxes and shelves are for!Told you you'd be jealous haha!!

After the special day which I had I came home to work and work and work ..... I was just about to continue with my CV and I turned a music channel on. The song which came on was a favourite of mine but one which doesn't instantly spring to mind when I need a pick me up. I found myself singing along and actually SMILING to it!! The song was by Alanis Morissette called 'Hand in My Pocket'.

I kinda like to think that the whole song is about this:
Life throws crap at you, you don' really know what to do, you struggle, you cry, you feel good, you feel bad and confused BUT everyone is the same. To quote:

"And what it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet"

Does that just not sound the best life lesson ever?! It's all gonna be fine and honestly those people who look together and fine really don't get it either. To be honest I don't think we ever get it...maybe your last moment on Earth you get this blinding moment of reality and think..."Ahh so this is what it was all about?"

If you've never heard the song please take a listen- it's amazing!
