Fan Friday - NYR Henrik Lundqvist

First off, I am going to work REALLY hard to not make this post sound like a fan girl post. I can't say it won't happen, so don't judge me! I'm linking up with Sarah for Fan Friday and decided to write about a sport's star who is a favourite of mine. I have a few but it won't surprise you that I chose a hockey player.

Not just any hockey player, a New York Rangers player. My favourite on the team (along with many, many others) is none other than Henrik Lundqvist. Why? Well let's see:

1] He's a goalie.
Since liking hockey I have always admired the goalies, from their warm up routines, the pressure they face being on the ice the whole game, the concentration they must have and their acrobatic skills to pull off some saves! Also, without meaning to, I dated a hockey goalie (French Canadian ladies - woo woo) who played for my local team and without realising, they became my weakness. Now when I see a hockey goalie skate out I can't help but swoon a little. I am sorry I have just undone all my good work of being a 'real' hockey fan! I'm not sorry!

2] Charity

Henrik supports charities and works closely with the Garden of Dreams foundation. Not only does he host various charity events, give items to auction, but he also donates profits from his clothing line to the charity.

3] Style

What can I say? This man has style and lots of it. He seems to be able to wear anything and everything and still look good. He knows how to pull off a suit, and let's be honest, a man in a suit is always a good thing!

4] Skill

He's an amazing goalkeeper. He holds a number of records and has won and been nominated for a variety of awards. In 2012 he won the Vezina Trophy ( this is awarded to the NHL's best goalkeeper) and he's also been nominated for this 5 years! As for Rangers awards, he was awarded MVP 7 years in a row. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. There's a reason he's earned the nickname The King!

My house is becoming a home...

As I shared not too long ago, I have moved into my own home. I am officially on the housing ladder which is so very exciting. I have enjoyed being able to act out a real life Sims game while decorating my place. I have added colour, style and charm. It is becoming my home which is amazing to see.

It means that I am without Internet connection for some time so I am grabbing time where I can when I pop back to my parents. I will be back soon to read all your wonderful blogs but until expect me to pop in and out of blog world and drop the odd post here and there.

I thought I would share some of my new home shots. Check out here for a 'before' image.

My own prints taken by me... NYC, NYC!

My very pretty bathroom with jet bath...

Living room all ready for wall decorations...

As you can see, I am very much enjoying my time decorating and making the place my own. Also, since we're all seeming to be suffering some crazy weather - here is a snow shot from my front window.

The snow is back...

What's is/will be you favourite thing about moving into a new home?

Colour Blocking : Guest Post

Today I have something a little different, a guest post from a new favourite blogger of mine. Miss Tiffany from Pinstriped Penguin! After she contacted me to guest post I was very excited to work for her. I hope you enjoy the post (I did- I am a huge fan of colour blocking!) and head over Pinstriped Penguin to read my post for the day and more on fashion! So please show some love today...

______________________________________________________________

Hello Everyone! My name is Fanny and I write the Pinstriped Penguin! I am so excited to be guest posting for Missy today :) I write a little about fashion, food, crafts, weddings, etc. etc. This list goes on and on.

I decided to share a little fashion with you guys today.
Color blocking, have you heard of it? I can't say I truly knew what it meant until just recently. Here's one of the definitions I found on the web, it explains it pretty well.
Color blocking is a technique where blocks of various fabrics are sewn together to create clothing with a few different solid colors...

So, there you have it! Color blocking was huge for Fall/Winter 2012/13, and don't expect it to go anywhere for Spring 2013. The trend can be found everywhere, from handbags and swimsuits to casual wear. Here are a few pictures I found of the trend on the runway and in real life.

I find this to be a very easy trend to follow. Just mix and match different color clothes and you've got it!
I found this shirt on sale for $10-$12 at Kohl's just recently. It was part of their Narciso Rodriguez designer line. Pair that with with some black skinnies or even dress pants and you've got a trendy outfit for work :)
First, let's get some things straight. I am not a model, nor is my husband a professional photographer - don't judge!! I also didn't have any make up on *sigh*

I didn't want to add too much jewelry to this outfit. The color blocking can be a lot sometimes, so simple is better. Some large retro black studs, a couple of bangles and my watch. Classic enough for work, yet still keeping that trendy vibe.

What do you guys think about color blocking? Do you see yourself getting into this trend for Winter or Spring?
